The story off...

Rosanne
ROSANNE’S DELIVERY TOOK A LONG TIME. HER CONTRACTIONS EVENTUALLY ONLY DECREASED IN STRENGTH, INSTEAD OF INCREASING. BUT SHE REMAINED POSITIVE AND MOTIVATED. BELOW, SHE SHARES HER STORY.
After 2 miscarriages and much sadness and uncertainty and being pregnant 3 times in one year, on May 25 at 9 p.m. the contractions of our son’s delivery began. Since this was the first experience for me, I thought; oh this is doable. Not knowing that labor would take 30 hours from start to finish. After 6 hours of waiting, the dilation had not changed much; I went from 3 centimeters to 4 centimeters. I kept my spirits up and after no change we decided to break the waters. In the afternoon, the contractions became more intense and I had mega pain in my back. From showering and mostly standing, the pain eased slightly. Besides the fact that the midwife helped me tremendously with the contractions and my husband did his best to assist me, I saw it as less and less positive to be able to give birth at home. In the afternoon on May 26, we discussed the options I had regarding the pain. I decided to be patient until I could give birth naturally and at home. The thing that kept me going was the peace I experienced inside; that I was allowed to trust the midwife. I extremely enjoyed the fact that she stayed at our house non-stop during the day and evening.

At 6 p.m. in the evening was the midwife’s shift change and unfortunately my contractions only subsided. I was super bright and had way too much chatter, so at 9 centimeters dilation we decided to drive to TerGooi in our own car. Besides the bed was already all set up and maternity care had also arrived, we still rushed to the hospital. I had to make the switch not to give birth at home and still relied on the midwife. The handover went very nicely from midwives among themselves. And also in the hospital I was told all the options to make my own decision with how I wanted to proceed. I asked the advice of the midwife who was also at home with me and we decided, despite my fear of needles at the time, to have an epidural. My body was very tired, therefore the contractions subsided.
I surrendered to everything that tubes, catheters and punctures were put into me. I thought of only one thing: NO C-section after puffing for so long. That gave me courage to follow through. After about one hour of rest, my contractions were induced, the anesthesia stopped and the contractions returned. In the end, our son was born in 12 minutes. And the stitches were set when he was born healthy. The day after delivery, the midwife called to see if everything went well. Even after that, I kept in touch with my own midwives. In short; childbirth is something you do together. The confidence I had turned out to be 100% right for me. I am super happy with all the support from the team I received after the anguish of 2 miscarriages. I want all new moms to read this story, because surrender and trust produces tremendously beautiful results!
