The story off...

Mariska
MARISKA SHARES HER TWO CHILDBIRTH EXPERIENCES. WITH THE FIRST SHE GAVE BIRTH SPONTANEOUSLY AND WITH THE SECOND SHE WAS INITIATED. SHE SHARES HER EXPERIENCES HERE.
My first labor began at 40 weeks and 2 days. When the labor storm started, it was around 1 a.m. I had some stomach trouble that night, but I thought it was because of the hachee we had eaten. Starting at 11 p.m., there was suddenly some regularity in the rumbling. At 1 a.m. the midwife was there and measured 2 centimeters of dilation. At 3 a.m. I suddenly had 9.5 centimeters of dilation already! Since my water hadn’t broken yet, I was still allowed to go to the hospital (Tergooi) if I wanted. At 3:30 we got in there. I ran up the stairs after a violent contraction (related to elevator anxiety)! Then in the hallway I already felt the first push contraction and at 4:02 our daughter was born! By 8 a.m. we were back home on the couch waving the upstairs neighbors off to work.

During my first delivery, the support from the midwife and maternity care was really fantastic. And also the aftercare!

My second delivery was different in that I was initiated on the due date; exactly at 40 weeks gestation. I was initiated because of gestational diabetes. At 8 a.m. I arrived at the hospital. I still drove there myself so I could deflect the tension with driving. At 9 a.m. the IV was in and the membranes were broken. Little happened for the first few hours. I then watched a movie on the iPad. At noon we had lunch and then my husband went out for some air. He had not yet left the room or the storm of contractions began. That was at 1 p.m. After an hour, I already felt contractions and had to convince the intern at my bedside to get a midwife, but no one was there. My husband ran out into the hallway to find someone. Finally, the desk clerk came in in her jeans with high boots and rolled things to their place and just when I already felt I couldn’t hold it back, a midwife came to take care of our daughter at 2:35 p.m. after all. My husband was already ready should there really be no one to be found. The midwife’s excuse was that she was already in labor and the other midwife at the hospital was held up. This event did impress me. From a very relaxed beginning to a fast-paced climax full of tension. Whereas in a hospital, on the contrary, you think there is always someone around. But with 2 quick deliveries, I have nothing to complain about!
What I experienced positively about both deliveries is that as a woman you get into such a bubble. You rely on your body knowing exactly what it wants and what it’s going to do and that you can trust it. Through haptonomy, I was calm and focused on my contractions and pushing. I knew what I had to do and could do it at that time. While I was very nervous beforehand. During my first delivery, the support from the midwife and maternity care was really fantastic.
