The story off...

KIMBERLEY GAVE BIRTH SMOOTHLY AT HOME TO A HEALTHY DAUGHTER. DURING THE PUSH, SHE HAD TO GIVE IT HER ALL, AS HER LITTLE ONE’S HEART RATE WENT DOWN. SHE RECOUNTS HER EXPERIENCE HERE.
It was a quiet Saturday night (05-09-2020) and was watching “Who is the Mole?” with my husband. I had been stripped 2x 2 days before, as I was already 41 weeks and 3 days pregnant. If nothing happened, I would be initiated on 06-09-2020. I assumed that nothing more would happen and would have to go to the hospital, whereas what I had hoped for most was a home birth. Suddenly it seemed like the real contractions had started and they came in quicker and quicker succession. Then I immediately called the midwife’s office (10 p.m.) and a “substitute worker” was there around 10:30 p.m. She said to me, “From the looks of you, these are not real contractions yet, but practice contractions. So this may take another 1 or 2 days’. It’s my 1st delivery, so I trusted what she said. As time passed, I felt the contractions became more intense and they followed each other faster. In the end, I lasted until 05:00. We then called the practice again and she came again. After a checkup, I found that I was already at 6 centimeters of dilation, so labor had indeed begun.

When the contractions became more intense, I would lose rhythm and my husband would make sure I got back into my bubble.

The substitute teacher’s shift was over. She was taken over by Nicolette! I spent 7 hours rocking the bed in my own bubble, trying to suppress the pain. At one point I could no longer stand and lay down on the bed. From then on, everything moved very quickly. I was very well guided and supported by my husband. I tried to stay in my own bubble and puff gently. When the contractions became more intense, I would lose rhythm and my husband would make sure I got back into my bubble. Trying to stay calm and breathe well was incredibly nice for me. I didn’t panic as a result and I didn’t have to cry. That only takes energy! Pretty soon I was at 9 centimeters of dilation and soon after at 10 centimeters. It’s very strange, but at one point I felt push contractions coming on. Personally, I really liked that because at least then you can do something. Ordinary contractions can only be caught purely. I was allowed to push and at first it seemed to go well, but soon they found out that the baby’s heart rate went down during the contractions. Now 1x was no big deal, but this happened more often. As a precaution, the ambulance was called and they were at the bedside pretty soon, to take me if necessary. I wanted so badly to give birth at home, so they put a cut and I worked really hard by pushing really hard. This worked well, as within 7 contractions our little miracle was born. Then it turned out that the umbilical cord was around her neck 2x and therefore the heart rate went down. This was quickly loosened and soon our little miracle was on my chest. Despite all the frenzy and excitement of childbirth, I look back on it with tremendous positivity and have no fears or trauma from it. I like a home birth so much: in your own familiar space. You can do whatever you want and it’s such a beautiful and special thing. Home gave me more peace of mind than the hospital. Nicolette’s wonderful guidance also helped tremendously to make this a great retrospective. She guided me well, supported me, explained everything clearly and acted when needed. Also the pregnancy course from the practice made me a lot more confident and trusting. As soon as Novalee Lynn was on my chest, I forgot all the misery, pain, nipping and stitches. It was all worth it and I would do the delivery all over again. I would also recommend a home birth to other mothers, although it seems less safe than the hospital. Nothing could be further from the truth! Everything is included and when you think of your beautiful little miracle, pain relief is not necessary. Dear practice, thank you again so much for great guidance and especially Nicolette. Without her, I couldn’t have done it the way I did that day.
